Ancient of Kin
“ANCIENT OF KIN” - THE SONG OF THE WILD ONE
Original song, written and performed for Oraculum, an immersive ritual theater production. April 4th, 2022 at The Haven art gallery, Portland. This song spoke to a need to repair disconnection with the forces of nature and mend the hoop of life.
From dwindling forests
And under the hills
We come to gather
All that has been spilled
We’ll teach you our dances
Ancestral seeds planted
Awakening memories
From deep-ocean dreams
As flames burn away
They open all ways
Connections re-made
All Earth breathes as one
Shed for us your grief
This is the rain we need
Sing us your longing
Re-enchanting all things
So what will you offer?
What can you give?
Most precious of all
Remember to live.
Do you remember?
We once knew another
Born of one mother
Ancient of kin
I am your sister
Carries you with her
Sings to the river
Washing your soul
I am your brother
A steadfast warrior
Noble protector
Of pure innocence
I am beloved
Most sacred other
Reflect one another
All beauty within
So what will you offer?
What can you give?
Most precious of all
Remember to live.
I am the Wild One
My heart never won
Stolen by none
Yet given so free
I am the Spirit
Love, can you hear it?
My voice is the stillness
Of spaces between
I am the nameless
Infinite timeless
Transcending all limits
Beyond boundaries
I am the daybreak
Of Will taking shape
Moonlight illuminates
Divine harmony
For creation I offer
This life fully lived
Most precious of all
Blessings to give
I am the Wild One.
