Mothertongues

“Mothertongues” - karro moss, february 2022

Performed as spoken word, rap/ hip-hop style. On my personal experience of learning to commune with nature through intuition.

I was once told

this English

language spoken

Could re-open

wounds of

Colonization

on lands Stolen

Desecrated

by the forgetting

of original instructions

Earth’s vibrations

translated

regional rituals

made sacred

through reciprocal

Relations

So I trace

the waters

In my veins

For my ancestors’

names—

those who came

from so many

places far away—

for the sound

of the river

running clear

from the mouth

Of Mother-tongues

From the sea

To the shores

Who called my

Peoples home

Who called my

People whole

So here it is for you

This is the gift I’ve been given

So I’m re-imbuing healing

With these words

The first time

I heard music

In the forest

I never used a word

Only hummed-and-toned

Reaching for the source

All light flows forth

Prismatic

In its course

Every frequency

In evolution’s key

Colors carrying

Unique qualities

selected by

admirability

Embodied memories

Wisdom and dreams

Of all those

come before

Ancient original

Seed syllables

Blossom on my lips

Resonating bliss

Drink in that Soma

Heal the lineage

Open communication

Soul exchanging

With the spirits,

Trees, and fish

Only to realize

All I’m hearing

Is this-

Re-connection

Reflecting

The universal

language

Of feeling

This is the gift I’ve been given

So I’m re-imbuing healing

With these words
